BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT:

Sponsor: Dryden Development Corporation

  • Improvements that have a positive impact on the community
  • Interior or exterior renovations
  • Landscaping, redevelopment of existing property, new construction

Best Western Motor Inn

The Best Western upgraded their exterior and lobby and added two new meeting rooms.

Even though Dryden is in a recession they are trying to keep the community moving forward and attract new business and meetings to our area by showcasing a great and modern venue.

Boffo Home & Cottage

Extensive renovations to the outside of the building; as well as landscaping, has transformed this landmark into a very beautiful and appealing Gift Shop.

Not only is Boffo Home & Cottage a beautiful sight for the residents of Dryden, but welcomes the many tourists that visit us.

McDonalds Restaurant

McDonalds has taken its old restaurant and completely modernized it to match the modern era.

Their interior is a place that is stylish and sophisticated, while still being family-friendly.

I applaud McDonalds for matching their store with the modern look.

Fitness Edge

All the updates - showers, aerobics room, etc...

Pharmasave

With their recent relocation, Pharmasave has strived to improve their physical look and greatly improve the aesthetic of the Dryden downtown core.

Their attention to the image of business is very important and deserves recognition at the awards ceremony.

The Flower Forest

For the past 14 years I have worked for The Flower Forest and seen Kailey Grow from purchasing the assets of Schmidt's to adding Briar Patch gift baskets, Canadian Pure Wild Rice and in 2009 purchasing Dryden Florist.

Kailey has succeeded in Dryden despite what the mill has done or what the economy has been. She believes in Dryden and is doing her part to keep shoppers, and local dollars in town.

In these tough economic times, Sarj at Masala's Restaurant has proven that hard work, fantastic customer service, quality product and offering something different are all characteristics that come together to build a successful business.

Sarj's customer service is of the highest standard always aware of who his clients are and what their unique needs are.

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR (26+ Employees):

Sponsor: TD Canada Trust

  • Community involvement and participation
  • Safe & healthy work environment
  • Efficient and knowledgeable staff

DMTS

The business has literally been through each evolution of the telecommunications industry and is now developing a next generation GSM Mobile network in Northwestern Ontario.

DMTS has strong community ties and supports and sponsors many different events, meetings, fundraisers and so forth.

DMTS is an integral part of the City of Dryden and, thanks to the citizens and loyal customers, DMTS will continue to invest back into our community.

DMTS stives to ensure customer satisfaction and continuously goes the extra mile, supporting and giving back to our community.

This company's vision is seen and displayed through each employee from the ground up.

There is a great sense of unity among the staff here and it is apparent in the actions and accomplishments DMTS has seen in recent history.

For these reasons, I strongly believe that DMTS is the Business of the year for the City of Dryden; its contributions and ongoing development are a strong, stable asset to our community.

Dryden Regional Health Centre

The Dryden Regional Health Centre is an overlooked business in Dryden's community, and are often taken for granted.

The work that Wade Petranik and every single staff member and volunteer has put in to keep our facilities top-notch is unbelievable.

Having spent a full day learning of their facilities, their services, and contribution to our city, DRHC is worthy of this award and much more.

Peter Gillis - DMTS

Peter Gillis has been a part of DMTS since 1979 and became the General Manager in 2003. Since 2003 Peter has changed the entire corporate structure of DMTS. It has been Peter's vision to expand and grow DMTS' business across Northwestern Ontario through the creation of our GSM network. Not only is Peter a great manager at work, but a great member of our community, acting as a Captain on the Dryden Fire Dept. and an excellent ambassador for the City of Dryden. Business Supporting Tourism:

Sponsor: Canadian Tire

  • Excellence in promotion of Dryden and surrounding area
  • Business that is an "Ambassador" for tourism
  • Promotion or attraction which enhances community spirit

Spinnakers & Fishtales

I would like to nominate Jeff Moreau in the field of business supporting tourism.

I have worked with Jeff on many occasions over the past year or more and I have been absolutely impressed with his drive for new and improved ways to bring tourism dollars to his business and our community.

Jeff played a large role in influencing a couple from Germany back to our community for a second year in 2010 after they experienced his innovative GPS tour and his excellence service.

Jeff has participated in workshops, tradeshows, Dryden travel packages and stays on top of the best avenues for media exposure opportunities.

Jeff works hard for tourism and is a great asset to our tourism industry finding and filling the niche markets were are missing.

Check out his website, you might just want to plan a trip too!

Naked North Art Gallery & Gifts

I think that the Art Gallery deserves an award for the opening of their local art shop.

It is a great asset to our tourism industry and is a major attraction for visitors to stop in to our information centre.

It was a dream of theirs and going out on a limb and taking a risk in an unknown industry they opened their doors on May 1, 2009.

It has been a pleasure and a great asset for me working in the visitor information centre with this business being able to display to our visitors the talented artists we have in our community. Art and Culture play a large role in the tourism industry and their risk has been Dryden's gain. I highly recommend them for this award and look forward to seeing more businesses come forward in tourism.

The position of Financial Planner can be demanding at times, especially in uncertain markets but with Kari's experience, training and partner contacts she always has her clients interest her utmost priority. Not only is she reliable in the performance of her financial planning duties, but she goes beyond her job description in many ways. BUSINESS TRAINING EXCELLENCE

Sponsor: Alex Wilson Coldstream Ltd.

  • Business promoting employee development and education
  • Implementation of on-going training in products/service
  • Communication, skill development

Comfort Inn

Starbucks

Excellent customer service is something lacking in the City of Dryden.

The staff at the Dryden Starbucks location provide consistent, excellent customer service that far exceeds any expectation that a consumer may have.

The Starbucks Manager & Baristas are knowledgeable of their clients as well as the product that they sell.

RBC Royal Bank

I have been through a number of training programs over the years, and have found that the training program through RBC is exceptional. You stay in the community and in branch for the length of your training. You have lots of interaction with other trainees all throughout Ontario, by computer and telephone. The variety of methods used for learning is so well-rounded that it encompasses all learning styles. They have their own internet campus site with a variety of courses to choose & learn from. Staff are encouraged to learn & better themselves through this program. This enables the training to be on-going at their own pace. The hands-on training at the front line is wonderful & the trainers have a wealth of knowledge that they are eager to share.

Overall, a wonderful place to start working, with a great training program & encouragement to reach for the stars!

Vicki Blanchard - Dryden Development Corporation

Vicki has been very instrumental in bringing many great marketing initiatives to our business community. She has been the lead on such initiatives as the Dryden Leisure Guide, Experience Dryden website, the Service Excellence program and many more. These developments have proven to be a great wealth of information about our community making our community visitor friendly and open for business. Those projects are just the tip of the iceberg with her contributions to marketing excellence. Her relations with Media on International, National, Regional and Local levels have also provided excellent exposure opportunities for the businesses located in and near Dryden. Events such as the Northwest Response Forum 2009, Napa Nascar Rally, Dryden Fastrax Flyball dog show are only a small portion of the events she has assisted with. She also assists in the planning, design and execution of the projects to ensure their success. She is very passionate about her job and it shows.

Drive Safe with DMTS, Dryden Air Show, Dig North and 2010 Windsurfing Championships are just a few of the main areas DMTS is Marketing and giving back to the community, ensuring these events go without a hitch. Also our radio and print ads have a distinct, clean and clear brand associated with them. That being said, I think that DMTS' Marketing effort within the City of Dryden is polished and complete and well deserving of the Marketing Excellence award for 2010.

Stosh & Natalie Welniak - Buster's BBQ

Besides creating bold and attractive advertisements, logos, sauce labels and a fabulous website, Buster's has utilized a variety of marketing strategies.
